Juri Time!

Summer Time Machine Blues (サマー タイム マシン ブルース Samâ taimumashin burûsu)
Summer Time Machine Blues is based around a group of friends in a science-fiction club who spend their days fooling around at the clubhouse. The boys play a game of baseball as their friend Yui Ito takes pictures of them nearby. After the game, the boys return to the clubhouse and head off to the bathhouse leaving the girls, Yui and Haruka to develop their pictures. While they bathe, Niimi gets angry because he thinks someone stole his Vidal Sassoon shampoo. On their way back, Takuma decides to sneak off to buy tickets at the theater for a sci-fi B movie. He hopes that he can ask Haruka out. But when he returns to the clubhouse, his friends act very strangely as to where he has been. They make him explain what happened, but through a series of chain events, Daigo accidentally spills Coke all over the air-conditioner remote control after being hit in the face. Everyone rushes to try to clean the remote off, but it's too late. The remote is broken and they cannot turn on the air-conditioner. This immediately becomes a problem as the day becomes hotter.
The remote apparently cannot be repaired as it is too old, so the boys give it to their club advisor to try and fix. They look for a fan in the meantime but only find broken ones. Back at the clubhouse, the boys discover a strange boy in the room who hurriedly escapes, leaving behind some sort of machine. They fool around discovering that it is a time machine. The boys decide to travel to the past to steal the remote control before it was broken and bring it back to the present. But as soon as they step back one day, they run into problems beyond their control!
This is such an amazing movie!!! So fun!!! and the twists in the story line are amazing... The story twists and turns around a back 2 the future style story.. This movie basically pays homage to Back to the future in general!
Juri is not the star in this movie... but rather the many actors which make up the science club. Eita is the main character in which the story revolves around... More on Mr Eita later... He is also very good in this movie.
One of the funniest movies I've seen in ages... Just I wanted to keep watching to find out what happens next. WATCH IT AND YOU WILL HAVE ALOT OF FUN!!
Oh yeah and the Video game references are there a plenty for us gaming geeks!!

Today's Ueno Juri Fix!

So next movie from Juri Chan... One of my favorite!

Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers (亀は意外と速く泳ぐ Kame wa Igai to Hayaku Oyogu)

Suzume Katagura (Juri Ueno) is an ordinary housewife whose spouse has been sent overseas on business. He keeps regular contact by phone, but is more concerned with and welfare of his pet turtle. She is bored and feeling ignored. Her mundane routine is disrupted one day when she spots a flier advertising for spies. Bored and now intrigued, she contacts them and is eventually instructed to go to a run-down apartment in the poorer section of town. She is greeted by unemployed Shizuo Kugitani (Ryô Iwamatsu) and a Etsuko Kugitani (Eri Fuse), a woman who makes announcements at shopping malls, as a married couple who both claim to be spies. As ordinary people with otherwise boring lives, they persuade Suzume to become a spy too.

Juri is the star in this movie. Still young after Swing Girls fame... she really takes the lead in this movie. So many great moments in this movie with great characters! Juri plays off each character perfectly and carries the pace of the film. It is a typical surreal style comedy... which Asia and Japan seems so good at!
The great thing about this film is there seems to be no plot! Is that a good thing you might ask? Well yes... It is in short a big surreal sitcom. A glimpse into someone's life.. and how events around them change them. It reminds me of a kind of Wes Anderson style movie.. Just sit and let the movie... let Juri show you the world we live in can be quite fascinating.. if you look that little bit closer...

*8 bit Magic

OH MY NOSTALGIA!! 8 BIT MUSIC ROCKS!! MY GAMING EARS!! RETRO MAGIC!!
So yes ... I'm a gamer.

I've been into Video games since my brother had a Sega Master system. Yes... many know me as a Nintendo Fanboy.. But my first system to wet my pre gaming appetite was on a Sega... Then came the Nintendo Entertainment System. That's when this shit just got real.

I was in Japan.. In a store called Village Vanguard! My absolute favourite store in Japan. It's a store that sales.. Books, Manga, Toys, Homeware, Fashion accessories... Oh basically everything geeky and cool!

I was doing the normal Friday browse... (Yes I was a regular Customer..) I heard the sounds of 8 bit magic surrounding the store... That's when I discovered YMCK!!

Swing jazz elements plus techno pop sound, NES game music plays like a vocal style characterized by 8bit sweet sound. CD album cover is also like a NES game character jacket dot painting was used to create a 8 bit image of the band
That's when I jizzed in my Pants!!

Now I can't get enough of this 8 bit Music goddness...
I did some searching and found 8 bit Peoples..

The 8bitpeoples first came together in 1999 as a collective of artists sharing a common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession.
On their site are many 8 bit artists all sharing their music for free!!
Check it out!

One of my favorite artists to come from this site has to be Anamanaguchi!

Anamanaguchi is a chiptune punk band from New York City that "makes loud, fast music with a hacked NES from 1985."[1] The band has four members: lead songwriter Peter Berkman, bassist James DeVito, guitarist Ary Warnaar and drummer Luke Silas.[2] Akin to other chiptune artists, Anamanaguchi creates music using synthesizers, albeit unconventional ones: namely a hacked NES and Game Boy. However, unlike most chiptune bands, Anamanaguchi employs live electric guitar, bass and drums on top of said synthesized music to create a fusion of digital and traditional sounds. From a technical standpoint, their music resembles that of video games from the mid to late1980s; however, Berkman states that video games are not the band's only inspiration, as their songwriting is also driven by "[s]imple popstuff, like Weezer and the Beach Boys."

Stay tuned for more Chiptune, 8 bit music glory!

Ueno Juri 上野樹里

Let me tell you about the gorgeous Ueno Juri 上野樹里!!

She is an amazing actress and my favourite! Yes she is Japanese... The movies she stars in are amazing ... From comedy to serious drama's.. Juri can play them all.

She is still only 24 and has mad so many movies which have become some of my most favourite movies ever!

She just seems to choose the right films!
Even she has a supporting role or just a small part... When she
is on screen she really steals the show.

She is most famous possibly for playing Nodame, from the Manga
Nodame Cantabile ... but more of that another time..

So I have decided to post a little review each day of Juris' movies...

Swing Girls (スウィングガールズ Suwingu Gāruzu)

Is a 2004 comedy film co-written and directed by the Japanese filmmaker Shinobu Yaguchi about the efforts of a group of high school girls to form a jazz band.
Swing Girls is set in rural Yamagata prefecture, in northern Japan and the characters often use the local Yamagata-ben dialect for comic effect.
The film ranked 8th at the Japanese box office in 2004, and won seven prizes at the 2005 Japanese Academy Awards, including 'Most Popular Film' and 'Newcomer of the Year' awards for Yuta Hiraoka and Juri Ueno.

This movie pretty much launched Juris' career... It is a cute... and very Japanese. High School comedy.
It  is such a feel good movie. If you are a fan of Jazz (Which I am) There are many classic Jazz pieces played throughout this movie. There are many... of these.. what I call Story movies in Japan. Foreign Cinema in general is all about great story lines and character building... Something which I feel lacks in the west. This is a prime example of storytelling.
There are many laugh out loud moments in this movie.... Not really coming from Juri herself... But the scenes themselves. A very memorable scene... is shot in the woods in a frozen time style matrix kind of scene involving a wild boar... Hilarious and very Anime. It's great as the budget is nowhere near that of the matrix. So the actors have to freeze themselves ... It makes it all the more hilarious.

All in all it is the perfect feel good movie... Makes you wish you went to high school in Japan.. Or maybe that's just me?

This movie is worth the watch and can be found to download all over the internet via megaupload e.t.c. with eng subs. Also I have noticed you can watch the whole movie via You Tube!!! (In Parts)... So no excuse... see what i'm raving on about!

Check it Out!!

Let me tell you about a great Artist ...
Chiho Aoshima 青島千穂
member of Takashi Murakami's Kaikai Kiki Collective.
Aoshima’s work often involves surreal scenes and dreamscapes, often including ghosts, demons, nature and young naked ladies!! Aoshima mostly prints large scale images onto papers with heavy-duty printers, but she has also printed on materials such as leather and plastic surfaces to give her images different textures.
She has displayed her work in an exhibition in the Gloucester Road tube station in London.
Aoshima states that, "My work feels like strands of my thoughts that have flown around the universe before coming back to materialise."
